Online Notary Appointment (Remote Online Notarization / RON)
What it is: A fully remote notary session conducted over secure video — no in-person visit required. You and I meet on an approved RON platform, your identity gets verified electronically, and the document is signed, sealed, and notarized digitally in real time. Authorized under Washington State's Remote Notarial Acts framework (RCW 42.45). Good fit if you're traveling, out of state, mobility-limited, on a tight schedule, or just don't want a stranger at your kitchen table.
What we do: I send you a secure link to join the session at your scheduled time. Once you're on, I verify your identity through the platform's credential analysis (scanning your ID) and knowledge-based authentication questions, then we go through the document together over live audio and video. You sign electronically, I apply my electronic seal and signature, and the platform produces a tamper-evident final document. The entire session is recorded and securely retained as required by Washington law.
What to bring (have ready before the session):
A device with a working camera, microphone, and stable internet — phone, tablet, or computer all work, but a larger screen makes signing easier
A valid, current, government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport) — you'll be asked to scan or photograph both sides through the platform
The document in digital form (PDF preferred), unsigned
A quiet, well-lit private space — bad lighting and background noise will slow things down
Your email address for the platform invite and final document delivery
Willingness to answer a short set of identity verification questions pulled from public records (this is standard for RON, not personal)
What to expect:
You must be physically located in the United States during the session — this is a legal requirement, not a tech limitation
Confirm your receiving party accepts RON documents first. Some banks, title companies, courts, and out-of-state agencies still won't take remotely notarized documents. If you're not sure, ask them before booking — a session that produces a document your recipient rejects helps nobody
Standard legal rules still apply: you must be coherent, willing, and not under pressure from anyone off-camera. If I see signs of coercion or you can't track the conversation, I have to stop the session
Some documents cannot be remotely notarized regardless of platform — certain wills, codicils, and specific real estate instruments depending on jurisdiction. If your document falls in that category, I'll let you know and we can switch to a mobile in-person appointment instead
Tech failures happen. If the connection drops, we reconnect or reschedule — I won't notarize a partial session
Once complete, you'll receive the fully executed, sealed digital document by email, ready to forward to whoever needs it
